The look and sound of the king and more ……!
October 23rd 2007
Welcome all to my latest gossip from Rockin Years Central. Well as this is getting towards the end of the year and I don't envisage writing anymore of these until the New Year it's a bit of time for some reflection on the year passed and on what's to come.
I didn't think at the start of the year that I would have such a hectic and rewarding 12 months but it so proved with all the events of the One Night Of Elvis contest playing to 100s and in the Blackpool case 1000s of people who really enjoyed every aspect of the contest. I met many new friends and through the exposure have caught up with some old ones as well which has meant as much to me as anything. Throw in a handful of celebrities who have seen me perform you can see why there is such a bug when it comes to performing for people who appreciate what you do. Many of my regular venues keep having me back for more torture and for this I thank you all. I have also played a lot of new ones this year as well as weddings and parties for people who love a rockin good time. The sets have changed a lot this year and I have had a lot of positive feedback which is nice. I recorded a live cd in a club in Benidorm earlier in the year and this has sold well at gigs. Songs from the 50s and some of the kings classics ie A Fool Such as I, Just Tell Her Jim Said Hello, and Rubberneckin to name a few.
In august I started a myspace page (details on the links and contact pages) and for those of you not up to gen on what this is all about it's another way of meeting people on line who have the same interest as yourself. Basically you link yourself to other peoples pages and that way more and more people can find out about you. The statistics for the website have rocketed because there is a link from the myspace page to the website.
I also appeared on the BBCs tv show called The One presented by Adriane Chiles he of Match Of The Day 2 fame on the 16th august to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the passing of Elvis. It was a good day watching the build up to this live show as I and some other ETA's (Elvis Tribute Artists) sang Always On My Mind accompanied by James Compton who is Shakin Stevens' keyboard player no less formerly of Darts.
Well if the next 12 months are as successful as the last I will be a very happy man. I have a charity gig on 23rd Dec supporting Lucky Strike at the Beckley Community centre near Rye in Sussex. I am looking forward to this very much and the bookings are coming in thick and fast for next year so get in early to avoid dissappointment. In January I'm off to Blackpool for the annual Walk A Golden Mile In My Shoes convention celebrating the Kings birthday and taking part in the Main contest of the weekend. This is now known as the European Championships for all ETA's (Elvis Tribute Artists).
One sad bit of news is my parting with the boys namely Rockaround. This has been very mutual and friendly and I hope on the odd occasion I can play with them again in the future but due to hectic schedules etc its best for both parties that we part company. So we have 3 gigs together [check the gig guide] up till the end of the year and I want as many people as poss to these events to say goodbye. I will miss them terribly and would like to take this opportunity in thanking the 2 Phils, Steve and Ian for the last few years its been brilliant and keep rockin.
Well that's all for now folks as they say in cartoon land keep logging in to the website and let me know what you think by telling me on the guestbook. See you all at a gig near you very soon
Keep on rockin !!

Its all over. The grand final of One night of Elvis was without doubt one of the highlights of my career so far.I along with the other 13 finalists arrived at the Opera House Blackpool on Saturday 23rd June.We all knew in advance what songs we were doing. I chose to do Blue Suede Shoes again as it served me well in my heat at the Tunbridge Wells Assembly Hall Theatre.
The day was spent rehearsing our songs and a big dance number finale to Jailhouse Rock that we all had to do. The Judges on the night included DJ Mike Read, Darren Day, DJ Tony Prince as well as a guest appearance by Rolf Harris who sang as well as unveiling a brand new portrait he has done of the King to the delight of the 2000 plus crowd in Britain's largest theatre.
Well I was on fourth out of 14 and it was faultless with the brilliant crowd getting behind my every note and move. I came off and have never felt on such a high as I did in the wings that night. I felt my rivals would be my room mates on the day Kevin Paul, Paul Rouse and Rebel Simon. We had a great laugh backstage as well as geeing each other up to do well. When it came to the announcement of the winner Rebel Simon was the name called out to a rousing approval from the crowd. He was brilliant and will do himself justice in Memphis in August. But as Todd Slaughter [president of the Elvis Presley fan club of Great Britain] said we were all winners bearing in mind over 450 people tried to get to the auditions and heats let alone the final. To have made the final 14 Elvi as we are called 'en masse' is a big achievment.
The show was recorded for an xmas special later this year and you will be able to see my performance on the video page soon. So its back to reality for me now as I go and sock it to Lingfield this very Saturday. I urge you all to leave your comments of support on my guestbook as this is very much appreciated. Do come up and chat to me at gigs as well as it can be a lonely ole night up there on that stage and tell me what you think of the show.
Keep on rockin !!

|One Night of Elvis Competition
April 6th, 2007
Hi Guys and Gals,
Welcome to my latest update and thanks for stopping by.Well where do I start, it's been a very busy time here at Dave.B HQ. Only last night 05/04/07 I was at the Tunbridge Wells Assembly Hall Theatre for a show entitled One Night Of Elvis with the winner of the GMTV search for Elvis competition Heath Ashton [pictured below]. They want 3 local talents to compete at each of there 15 venues on there nationwide tour with the winners going on to compete in a Grand Final in Blackpool in June. Well I auditioned during the day with a host of others to be in the show that night.
I was successful along with Jason and David who I got to know well over the course of the next few hours. We were given a song each and told we would not be allowed any rehearsal time.So the show arrived in no time and Heath Ashton took to the stage doing his early Elvis set. Then before the end of act one it was competition time and I was nominated to go on 1st. I belted out Blue Suede Shoes and it went without a hitch. Jason then sung One Night and David did Hound Dog. During the interval it was the audience who voted for the winner and yours truly came up trumps being announced as the winner in act two to a packed theatre who yelped with delight.
The tour is to celebrate 50 years of the Elvis fan club this year along with being the 30th anniversary of the Kings death on August 16th. The winner in Blackpool then goes on to play in Memphis representing the Elvis Presley fan club of Great Britain. I will be giving it my all so when I have more details they will appear here 1st. There will be a video of my performance at Tunbridge Wells on this site very soon so watch out for that. I have cut some tracks this year live so they are now compiled as a cd for your purchase at gigs. It’s a mix of classic rock 'n' roll numbers with 4 Elvis tracks on there including Just Tell Her Jim Said Hello and Rubberneckin. I'm pleased with the results so hope you all like 'em to.
I have another heavy schedule coming up with some more new venues this year so keep checking the gig guide for info.
We added the audio page earlier this year with some live sound bites of me with Rockaround. What a night that was with most of us out of our heads on booze but it sounds good considering and the feedback has been positive.
I'm getting more bookings now via this website contact page so thanks for that and if you are very shy and don’t like talking to sad old rockers like me then this is the way forward for you.
Anyway there will be an update again very soon with all the Blackpool info and hopefully a video snippet of moi giving it max. So keep on rockin and throwing the knickers my way [don’t ask] and I will see you at a venue near to you very soon.
Keep on rockin !!
